SCHEELS Colorado Springs donates All Kids Bike program to elementary school, promoting fitness and fun for young learners

Colorado Springs, CO (10/18/2022): The All Kids Bike Kindergarten Learn-to-Ride Program is a 24-fleet of bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, one teacher instruction bike, and certified curriculum teacher training, which is everything needed to teach kids how to progress from balance to riding a bike in 8 lessons at French Elementary. Funding for this program was graciously made by SCHEELS of Colorado Springs.

Shannyn Wong, Community Relations Lead at Scheels shared that their relationship with French started in a unique way.

“I received a package of hand-written letters from the kindergarten class at French Elementary, asking for SCHEELS to help with donations for their bike program so that they could learn how to ride bikes. We have supported French Elementary in a smaller capacity since our store opened in March 2020, so this was an opportunity for us to grow our relationship with them and to support an effort that we are equally passionate about.

At SCHEELS we are committed to doing good in our community and love to help people, of all ages, find their passion – and we were able to combine both of these for this project. We did a little research on their request and all the right pieces came together for us to participate in this donation on a larger scale. We were so excited to see their faces when they received the bikes – it will be a day that we all remember!”

At French Elementary, this program will teach approximately 100 kindergarten students how to ride a bike on an annual basis. With the equipment lifespan of 7-10 years, this will impact up to 1,000 kids over the next decade.

French Elementary is eager to begin the program this year. PE Teacher Chelsey Shub, who applied for the program shared her excitement upon learning that her school had been funded. “I was in tears; it was so humbling that SCHEELS would do such a large donation. There is nothing comparable to being able to ride a bike and build confidence that they will carry with them throughout their lives.”
