All Kids Bike is a national movement to place Learn-to-Ride bicycle programs into public school kindergarten PE classes. The program teaches kids how to ride a bike using balance bikes and a proven, step-by-step curriculum. Our mission is to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
While many parents traditionally taught their children to ride a bike, today’s reality is very different.
Fewer kids are learning to ride at home due to a variety of factors—lack of time, safe spaces to ride, or access to equipment. As a result, many children are missing out on this key childhood milestone.
Teaching kids to ride a bike in school helps close that gap by making bike education accessible, equitable, and consistent for all students, regardless of their background or home environment. Here’s why it matters:
Equity: Not all families have access to bikes, helmets, or safe areas to practice. The All Kids Bike program ensures every child gets the chance to learn.
Physical & Mental Health: Riding a bike builds coordination, balance, and confidence—and encourages a lifelong love of movement.
Aligned with PE Standards: Our program supports national physical education goals and builds physical literacy alongside traditional PE activities.
A Milestone for All: Learning to ride at school creates shared moments of achievement and joy that benefit the whole classroom community. By teaching kids to ride in kindergarten PE class, we’re not replacing parents—we’re empowering families by giving children the skills, confidence, and excitement to ride together outside of school.
The All Kids Bike program is managed by the Strider Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Rapid City, South Dakota. Led by a board of directors and the Executive Director, Lisa Weyer.
Any public or private elementary school with a kindergarten PE program in the U.S. can apply.
The Learn-to-Ride program is designed specifically for kindergarten students as part of their physical education curriculum. However, many schools utilize the program for pre-kindergarten and first grade classes.

Yes! All instructors receive access to video-based training that covers equipment setup, how to teach the Balance Bike Method, key student milestones, and fun games to reinforce each lesson.
The curriculum consists of 8 structured PE lessons, each building on the last to help students move from balancing to pedaling at their own pace. The first five lessons are in balance mode, where students learn the basics of balance by striding, leaning, and maneuvering through turns. They develop spatial awareness, gain the confidence to lift both feet up and glide, and learn how to follow the leader. The last three lessons are in pedal mode where students learn how to pedal and pilot the bike. It is aligned with SHAPE America National PE Standards.
Bikes that are used in the All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program are easy and safe to use. If a student can walk, they can ride! The bikes start off in balance mode, with the students’ feet firmly planted on the ground.
No. The bikes are school property and are stored and reused each year for new kindergarten classes, making the program sustainable and cost-effective. The program has a lifespan of 7-10 years so each new year of kindergartners has the opportunity to learn to ride a bike.
On average, 100 kindergartners benefit from the All Kids Bike program at each school every year. Because the bikes and equipment are built to last and reused annually, the program continues to serve new students year after year. Over a 10-year lifespan, a single program can impact 1,000 students—making it a long-term investment in the health, confidence, and development of an entire generation of young riders.
The program still reinforces balance, safety, coordination, and social-emotional skills. More advanced riders help mentor beginners.
At All Kids Bike we truly believe that if you can walk you can ride a bike. Although our bikes are not adaptive, those with intellectual and developmental abilities will be able to participate in the program.
There are several meaningful ways to support the All Kids Bike mission—and one of the most impactful is by funding a complete Learn-to-Ride program for a school. Each program provides everything a school needs to teach kindergartners how to ride, including bikes, helmets, curriculum, teacher training, and support materials.
