Dave Wiens

Mountain Biker | Trail Builder | IMBA Teammate

David is a Colorado native, life-long bike rider and has ridden and raced his mountain bike all over the world. He has two US national championship titles, has won two UCI World Cup races and won the grueling Leadville Trail 100 six years in a row from 2003 to 2008.

He has been involved in trail building and trail advocacy since the 1980’s, was the founder and executive director of Gunnison Trails, Inc., and created the Original Growler mountain bike race as a funding mechanism for the organization. Dave also created the Mountain Sports program at Western Colorado University.

He joined the IMBA board of directors in 2016 and was named to IMBA’s leadership team in 2017. Dave lives in Gunnison, Colorado with his wife, Susan DeMattei, also a mountain biker and the bronze medalist in the 1996 Olympic Games.

Dave’s bike was his freedom and his independence as a kid growing up in suburban Denver and he cannot imagine kids growing up and not riding bikes! He is honored to be an ambassador for All Kids Bike and is fired up to help spread bicycle stoke to kids everywhere.
