Governor Daniel McKee Joins All Kids Bike to Launch Learn-to-Ride Program at Gladstone Street Elementary School
[Cranston, RI, June 4, 2025]: All Kids Bike, the national 501(c)(3) nonprofit teaching kindergarten students how to ride bikes in PE class, is activating their All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program at Gladstone Street Elementary School.
The comprehensive program includes teacher training and certification, complete curriculum with lesson plans, games and activities, a fleet of 24 Strider balance-to-pedal bikes, pedal conversion kits, fully adjustable student helmets, an instructor bike with pedal conversion kit and helmet, two rolling storage racks, and access to a resource portal with live support for the life of the program. Gladstone Elementary School celebrated the introduction of the program with a kickoff event attended by Governor Daniel McKee, Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green, school leadership, and representatives from All Kids Bike and the Strider Education Foundation.
“Every child deserves the chance to learn how to ride a bike. All Kids Bike is doing that and more—they’re building community and safe opportunities to learn for our students,” said Governor Dan McKee. “Today’s reveal in Cranston is a perfect example of how communities are putting the Rhode Island 2030 plan into action—by promoting active lifestyles, investing in our children, and building strong connections.”
“I’m excited that All Kids Bike have chosen to invest in Rhode Island’s students,” said Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “Learning how to ride a bike is such an exciting moment for young people. This new program at Gladstone Street will keep students engaged in learning, both in and out of the classroom.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate this exciting moment with Governor McKee as we deliver the All Kids Bike program to Gladstone Street Elementary here in Rhode Island,” said Lisa Weyer, Executive Director of All Kids Bike. “With only two programs currently active in the state, today marks an incredible step forward in our mission to ensure every child learns to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class. “We’re grateful to Governor McKee for recognizing the importance of giving students access to opportunities that can truly shape their lives.”
At Gladstone Street Elementary, this program will positively impact approximately 75 kindergarten students each year by teaching them how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class. With a lifespan of 7-10 years for the equipment, it is estimated that up to 750 students will benefit from this initiative over the next decade.
“Gladstone Elementary School is thrilled to bring the All Kids Bike program to our kindergarten students. Not only are we teaching a lifelong skill, but we’re also giving students the confidence to try something new and succeed. Having Governor McKee join us for the big reveal made this moment even more special for our students and community. This program will have a lasting impact on our students’ physical and emotional growth,” stated Amy Vachon, principal at Gladstone Street Elementary School.
